Dear Editor-and-Chief,

I am concerned with a recent topic that seems to be overlooked at a government level. More government officials are opening up to the idea of legalizing marijuana for medicinal use, but are still neglecting the fact that it can also be used to make many other useful things as well. Marijuana should be legalized as a material used to make goods and potentially take some of the strain off of our economy.

Marijuana has various purposes. The buds can be used for medicine, but the clippings and left over parts are used to make a substance known as hemp. Hemp has over ten thousand uses including paper, concrete, clothes, fuel etc. Hemp is very cost efficient and quicker to produce than many plants. On average, marijuana takes anywhere from three to six months to grow. If legalized, hemp can bring in 50 to 500 million dollars to the economy.

Sincerely,

 Devin Cheetham
